Srini Srinivasan - Global Design Ambassador
Srini is a multi-faceted, multi-talented international designer with innovation, strategy, and human-centered design for multiple companies and institutions. As a product designer and creative director for UX, he has built and led successful design studios Lumium and Cubestack Design to deliver award-winning and world-class products and experiences for Consumer Electronics, Medical devices, Smart home appliances, Surveillance and Security, Industrial goods in North America, Asia, and Europe for over 25 years. Srini has also taught design courses at universities for both Undergraduate and Graduate programs and is currently a Professor of Industrial Design at Design Innovation Institute Shanghai (DIIS), a Design Research entity based in Shanghai. He conducts Design Salons on key design topics including the impact of AI on Product Design and moderates invited key experts regularly. Srini is also the curator of Frontier Design Prize, a unique award program of DIIS. Srini is also a visiting Prof of Industrial Design at Politecnico di Milano. He is also on the International Advisory Board of Tongji University and a few others in India. Srini has conducted successful design workshops and design thinking methods for corporate clients and led their design/innovation strategies for long-term business objectives. He has assisted companies in M&A strategies, capital raise strategies, and market entry strategies. Srini was part of the Steering Committee of Future of Design Education, a program that was started by Prof. Don Norman (UCSD) and Karel Vredenburg of IBM that explored various models of design education across the world. It has 6 sub-themes and over 600 design educators from many countries. Srini led the sub-theme titled “Pluriverse”. Srini is also on the Advisory Board of the Don Norman Design Award, an award that is commissioned to help design students with scholarships to pursue design education. Srini was also the President of the World Design Organization (2019-2022), the longest- serving global design promotion entity since 1957, and is now currently its Senator. During his term as the President, Srini led several community-oriented design strategies across the world and led several design challenges, including the CoVID challenge with IBM, Violence against Women with UN Women, Design in Space for Use on Earth challenge with ISS, and Sustainable Packaging with World Packaging Organization. He has assisted in various capacities in World Design Capital projects at Cape Town (2014), Taipei (2016), Mexico City (2018), Lille Metro (2020), and Valencia (2022). Srini also re-started the World Design Impact Prize during his term as the President. Srini also initiated a new project called the World Design Protopolis with the City of Bengaluru in 2019 which outlined a 5-year plan for a city to improve the life of citizens through a series of design-led programs. After a delay of 4 years due to the pandemic, this project was signed in July 2023. Srini is also the Founding President of WDO Foundation, a new entity created to take on larger community-oriented programs with the Cities and municipalities. Srini has served on several International Design Award Jury panels, including CES Innovation Awards, Eureka Sustainability Award, DIA, Golden PIN, International Design Award, V-Mark Awards, GIDC, SZIDA, TISDC, Turkish Design, India Design Award, Frontier Design Prize, and Business World Design Awards. Srini has delivered over 60 keynote speeches for design-related events in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, India, Italy, Mexico, Nederland, Russia, Spain, South Africa, UAE, UK, USA, Taiwan, and Turkey. Srini is passionate about sustainability and promotes sustainable design with clients and cities. Srini attended UC Berkeley for his executive education in Product Management. Presently, Srini is pursuing his Ph.D. in Sustainable Development.
